John Peatey (1968 - 73), reported recently on his role as Yum Yum in the 1968 production of The Mikado and has since supplied programme pages from the 1965 performances of Iolanthe.
Now living in Spain, John has also made available programmes from the 1949 production of The Gondoliers and the 1947 production the Pirates of Penance, both of which featured his late father BC Peatey.
Rennie Vickers & David Wiltshire met John recently in High Wycombe to receive and scan pages from the programmes for this website.
John writes:-
My father was B.C.Peatey, younger brother to Ken Peatey, also an old boy, who sadly passed away in 2011. Ken was also university material, but he had to leave the school and start work, as my grandparents could not afford the university fees at the time. Ken went on to serve in the RAF, and was a pilot trainer at Booker Airfield for a while. He was known to ‘dive bomb’ my grandmother in a Tiger Moth on occasion, much to her annoyance, when she was hanging out her washing, on Mondays, in the garden of the then family home in Chairborough Road, High Wycombe.
With regards to the other Peateys mentioned in Ron’s email of November 21, I believe both DR and GR emigrated to Australia, where the Peatey clan seems to have enjoyed something of a population explosion!
I vividly recall visiting a remote lighthouse on Vancouver Island when on holiday with my parents and sister in 1969. There, in the guestbook, was an entry from G R Peatey with an address in Australia, made less than a fortnight previously. G R was a cousin of my father, and I believe Dad made a note of G R’s address, but whether he ever followed it up or not I don’t know.
