n.b. Tournament Chess Vol.9 has wrong dates for this tournament (it gives 13-21 July 1982)

BCM, March 1983, p122: "Unfortunately playing conditions at the Brighton Centre left a lot to be desired. Instead of the spacious room and executive suite which was available for the 1981 tournament at the Brighton Centre, the 1982 event was played in a small, stuffy and over-heated room with no room for the public (in fact, despite the posters in the foyer, your editor [Bernard Cafferty] was told at the Centre that the event was not open to the public). On windy days a slight gap in the double or treble glazing caused such a wild noise that one round had to be played at the players’ guest house.

"Add to this that there was an altercation with the management over some pop concert tickets which led to the chess equipment being temporarily impounded and one wonders how beneficial the 1982 tournament was for the reputation of British chess."

Date Notes
24 December 2022 First uploaded to BritBase with all 55 games. 53 of the games have been available on the ChessBase Mega/Big Databases since 1999, but the two missing game scores have now been found and inserted, and round numbers and dates added. Also, two games have slightly different game scores: Murey 1-0 Tisdall (rd8) and Hjartarson ½-½ Hodgson (rd 11). I am grateful to Andy Ansel for comparing scores.
