The Midland Counties Chess Union held an all-play-all GM tournament at Staffordshire University, Stoke-on-Trent, to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Average rating of the players was 2452, so the category was 9 with a GM norm of 6½. 1st was Mark Hebden with an impressive 7/9. 2nd was Jonathan Parker (Midland Monarchs) with 6/9, mssing the GM norm by only half a point. Richard Bates (Richmond) made an IM norm.
